Game, Set and match to Dhoni

Dated:01/04/2011 Friday

By Staff Writer

If we think, our bowling department, whose sudden resurrection from nowhere, was the main reason for that fantastic win over Pakistan, then you are absolutely spot on with your calculus of cricket and there’s nothing wrong in it but the whole credit should goes to our captain of the ship (M.S Dhoni). Just an hour before that grueling encounter with their arch rivals, when Dhoni took that  final decision of opting Aasish Nehra in their final eleven, despite of his miserable run in this tournament.  From the skipper side, It was enough to shell-shocked the world.

All experts and excited fans, when they got the news that, Nehra would replace in from Ashwin Patel, and then the reaction was nothing but a sudden outburst of an atomic bomb. Everyone was thinking, it was a blunder nothing else, but Dhoni knew what he was doing and also knew what Nehra could produce. How could we forget about the comeback of Yuvraj Singh, when his team needed him the most and again it was Dhoni, who stepped out on Yuvi’s behalf and included him in the world cup squad. Nehra was never looked in shape before the semi Final clash and that fueled up the cricketing world, where people asking questions like, what went wrong on earth for Dhoni to go with Nehra?

Now, when we thrashed Pakistan, where Nehra performed equally well just like other bowlers, which cleared off, those malicious air and transform them into fresh air of belief where people actually start believing that, Dhoni apart from being a captain, he is also very good at home in his Statistics. After captaining for India over the years now, he has grown up with confidence and has learnt the art, which has only been benefitting the Indian team in the recent past. After winning the toss without giving it a second thought, he chosen to bat first because he knew that the pitch would go slow in the end and Nehera could be his safest bet then. That’s what exactly happened in the end; the pitch became slower and created all sorts of problem for the Pakistani batsman to face the swing, bounce from Indian bowlers. Dhoni still says that, it happened because of their team’s sheer dedication towards the game and that made us a winner. But someone who knows their cricket very well, they believe, its only Dhoni’s calculative steps which made us a winner.
